Pediatric Clinic Provides Comfort and Care to Families

Having worked at Logan University for three years as the assistant director of admissions for Logan’s College of Health Sciences, Caroline Marra knew exactly where to turn when she received alarming news about her three-year-old son.

“A few months ago, my son started experiencing pain in his right hip, but I hoped the issue would resolve itself” Caroline said. “Then one morning, my wife texted me that our son couldn’t walk.”

Caroline reached out to Allison Harvey, DC, the director of Logan’s pediatric clinic located in the Montgomery Health Center, and shared her son’s condition.

“When I told Dr. Harvey about my son, she dropped everything to make sure he was seen right away,” Caroline explained. “He had an appointment almost immediately.”

During their visit to the pediatric clinic, Dr. Harvey and her team of student clinicians ordered an X-ray that revealed fluid buildup in his right hip joint. The team reassured Caroline that this condition is common in young children and often occurs after they have been sick.

Caroline says Dr. Harvey and her team’s care stood out to her and made her son feel at ease.

“My son is usually very shy and doesn’t talk to strangers,” Caroline explained. “But Dr. Harvey and her team got him to the point where he opened up to them, even giving them high-fives and fist bumps on the way out.”

The treatment plan for Caroline’s son included working on his core and balance through cross-hemisphere exercises as well as cranial adjustments in his neck and back. The team also provided exercises for Caroline to do with him at home.

After just a few visits, Caroline noticed a significant improvement. The pain in her son’s right hip began to fade.

“It was like night and day,” Caroline said. “A large part of why he started to get better quickly is because of how comfortable he felt at the clinic.”

Now, her son visits the clinic once a week to continue his ongoing treatment and enjoys swimming and playing soccer.

Logan’s Health Centers have become a resource for the rest of the Marra family as well. Caroline receives acupuncture to manage her severe temporomandibular joint disorder (TMJ), and her wife visits for migraine treatment, benefitting from the combination of acupuncture and adjustments.

“Chiropractic care has truly changed the quality of life for our family,” Caroline said. “I would urge others to take the leap and make your first appointment.”

Logan University offers more than just a Doctor of Chiropractic (DC) degree. Licensed chiropractors in the U.S., international chiropractors with a DC-equivalent degree and advanced-standing chiropractic students can further their expertise with Logan’s Master of Science in Chiropractic Pediatrics (MS-CP) program. This unique program delivers high-quality, clinician-focused training, equipping DCs with advanced knowledge and skills to provide safe, effective pediatric chiropractic care. Graduates of the MS-CP program are empowered to make a profound impact on the health and well-being of families, like the Marra family, through their expertise in pediatric care.
